Natural horsemanship is simply the language of the horse. A horse is aPREY animal, therefore they learn in a certain way. It is important to understand how a horse learns best.
You can learn the language of the horse! In time, you will understand why your horse acts like he does. This knowledge will give you confidence, making you a better rider and horseman.
Some folks have the idea that natural horsemanship is a
magic wand that one simply waves over their horse and instantly your
horse is eternally changed into a new creature. Unfortunately this is not the case. It is the language of the horse no doubt. The truth is, one needs to learn the language first. You may have attended a clinic and
certainly have taken home some wonderful knowledge but this is only the beginning of the journey! As time goes you run into various
problems and figure this stuff doesn't work. The fact is natural horsemanship is a PROCESS.
Like anything in life you don't become fluent in any language without
practice and time spent speaking your new vocabulary. In learning your
new language you will in time be able to discern the attributes of your
new culture. This takes time! You being a PREDATOR by nature and your friend being a PREYanimal makes you two complete opposites. In time, you will see how your horse learns best, why you act
like you do, and why your horse re-acts like he does.
Learning to change your behavior and the way you act around your horse
will be your greatest challenge.
Soon enough you'll get your wand out and the magic will begin!
